The City of Ottawa continued a workplace harassment investigation into an alleged attack on the fire department’s first openly non-binary firefighter, even with active criminal charges laid in the case.
On Thursday, March 23, 2023 lawyers representing the defendants confirmed that an Ottawa firefighter accused of attacking the department’s first openly non-binary firefighter has been terminated from his job. In addition, Captain Greg Wright received a three-day suspension without pay for failing to report the incident.
Joshua Clarke, who is representing Wright in his criminal case, said his client “is not accepting of this particular outcome” and has asked his union, the Ottawa Professional Fire Fighters Association, to grieve the suspension.
