On the evening of June 20th, military police were conducting a RIDE program when they pulled over a silver Honda. While speaking with the driver, identified as Thomas, a strong odour of alcohol was noted, as well as glassy eyes. A roadside breath test was administered, registering a fail. Readings of 187 and 174 were obtained during a subsequent test. Thomas was subsequently charged with operating while impaired and operating over 80.
Result: After extensive efforts on the accused’s behalf, including going to treatment, obtaining counselling and getting many letters of support, the Crown were unwilling to offer anything more lenient that the minimum penalty, which the client accepted in the end. So, he ended up with a criminal record, a fine, and 12 month driving prohibition.
