In September 2020, OPP were conducting a RIDE program in the village of Alfred. James was the driver of a vehicle stopped by police. When an open bottle of beer was observed in the console between the driver and passenger, police conducted a further search of the vehicle occupants. While searching the vehicle, officers were advised the vehicle had been reported stolen two weeks prior. Inside the vehicle, officers found over $3700 in cash, several cell phones, cannabis, ketamine, psilocybin, and a prohibited butterfly knife.
James and the passenger were charged with multiple drug possession related offences and occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted weapon.
Results: After multiple court appearances and discussions with the Crown, the co-accused passenger accepted responsibility, and the charges against James were withdrawn.
