On March 3rd, Cst. Fraser was on patrol in Smiths Falls when she received an alert of a vehicle with unattached plates, which she observed and followed. When she pulled the vehicle over, Cst. Fraser confirmed the plates were unattached, as well as the registered owner of the plates. The vehicle passenger, identified as the owner of the plates, stated the vehicle was borrowed from a neighbour in order to pick up a prescription in Smiths Falls. The driver stated that she did not have a licence, but was identified as Amanda via health card. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was recently purchased by the passenger, but title was never properly transferred and the vehicle was uninsured. The investigation also revealed that Amanda’s licence had been suspended since June due to unpaid fines. She was subsequently charged with driving while under suspension.
Result: This accused pleaded guilty to the count as charged, however she was given a lenient sentence. She received a $500 fine and a six month driving suspension, avoiding jail time, which was her primary concern.
