On March 24th, Lanark County OPP were called to a theft in progress at a solar farm in Tay Valley Township. Security monitoring the property observed suspicious males carrying what appeared to be copper coils and contacted police. The responding officers located a hole cut into the perimeter fence along with fresh footprints leading towards a wooded area. Containment patrols were then commenced, but with negative results.
On March 25th, police received a report of a break and enter at the same address. After arriving, police noted the gate was padlocked shut, and two vehicles were also found, warm to the touch and with tools inside. In the course of searching the area, Ethan was one of three individuals observed walking in the immediate vicinity of the property.
Ethan was arrested and charged with mischief under $5000, break and enter, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.
Outcome: The client made some inculpatory statements saying that he knew his friends were doing a bad thing. Ultimately, the Crown agreed to a peace bond and withdrew the charge. The client avoided a criminal record.
