In September 2020, Jessica ended a one month relationship with Mark. Over the next several months, Jessica would receive multiple phone calls and text messages from several different phone numbers, including messages sent to a coworker, which she suspected were all from Mark. She made clear to Mark that the attempts to communicate were unwelcome.
In March 2021, Jessica contacted Ottawa Police to report an escalation in the attempts to communicate. During an investigation, Mark was advised by police to cease all attempts to directly or indirectly communicate with Jessica. When Mark continued his attempts at communication, he was eventually charged with two counts of harassment by means of repeated telecommunication.
Result: After discussions with the Crown, Mark plead guilty, receiving 2 years probation and avoided a criminal record.
